Tyres Slashed to “Educate” Owners
Tyres in the city of Berlin have found themselves on the wrong end of attention from a number of ecologically aware vandals. Within less than a week vandals have slashed or deflated the tyres on more than 80 4×4 and luxury cars throughout the German capital.
What singles this spate of attacks out from everyday vandalism is the handwritten notes left for the vehicles’ owners. These notes, claiming to be from “environmentalists”, outline the link between carbon dioxide emissions and global warming.
Investigators assume that the attacks are the work of a group rather than an individual and that it could be linked to international organisations that advocate social awareness through vandalism. Similar groups operating in France and Belgium have been known to smear cars with manure.
