Keeping Swimmers Safe with Goodyear
Motorists who buy Goodyear tyres will be helping to keep the Royal National Lifeboat Institute’s (RNLI) fundraising efforts afloat. Goodyear has joined forces with the prominent UK safety charity to help fund the RNLI’s vital lifesaving training, and every purchase of a set of Goodyear HydraGrip rain tyres – a product that independent tests have shown can reduce stopping distances in wet conditions – will see a donation of £2 go to the RNLI’s innovative training programme.
Goodyear brand manager Ben Crawley is delighted to be supporting the cause. “The RNLI is a fantastic example of an organisation with an innovative approach to safety and we are working with the charity to help fund and highlight its state-of-the-art training programme to ensure that volunteers get the best possible support…….we will also be looking to support the charity in many other ways.”
Since the RNLI was founded in 1824 its lifeboats have saved more than 137,000 lives, and in 2006 RNLI lifeboats rescued 8,015 people (an average of 22 people per day) – with RNLI Lifeguards assisting 10,448 people. RNLI spokesperson Marie Cowan believes that the initiative offers an easy way for Goodyear’s customers to support the RNLI. “Only one in ten of the RNLI’s volunteer crew members come from a professional maritime background, so training is absolutely essential,” she said. “It enables ordinary people to do extraordinary things. The funds raised by Goodyear will help to ensure that our crews receive the very best training available, helping them to continue their lifesaving work.
“The donation through the HydraGrip is a great fit, with 50p coming to us for every tyre they sell, but there are many other benefits to the relationship and we are hoping to form a long-term partnership.”
