Changing Places
Working from a service van or trailer has been made easier by the introduction of Rema Tip Top’s Unimont truck tyre changer. Suitable for both fixed workshop or mobile service, the Unimont features a newly developed telescopic slide that enables mobile users to work outside their service vehicle and quickly and safely mount or demount tyres from 15 degree drop centre rims between 16.5 and 24.5 inches in size. And as a service van needs no special adaptation to accommodate the Unimont, the unit is truly is mobile and can be easily transferred from one vehicle to another.
Once familiar with the Unimont an operator can typically remove a truck tyre from its rim and replace it in under ten minutes, whether in the workshop or out on the road. In mobile operation it only takes a few seconds to position the unit outside the vehicle and a similar time to return the Unimont to its storage position. Following bead breaking via an electrically turned wheel the bead is dismounted through the bead-breaking cylinder in a one-step operation.
Mobile users can also benefit from the two-stage single acting compressor produced by Rema Tip Top to complement the Unimont. The compressor operates using a DC electric motor and is accompanied by an air receiver that can be positioned to cater for any type or size of vehicle. It is designed to remain in a state of standby when not in use but instantly provide power when required, a set-up that minimises the amount of fuel consumed in powering the compressor.
Workshop based users have also been looked after by the people at Rema Tip Top through additions to the company’s Promont range of tyre changers. Described by the company as ‘future proof’, the new Promont 820, 822 Plus and 826 Plus offer tyre dealers and workshops a number of solutions to their tyre changing requirements. The Promont 820 is well suited for smaller scale operations and features a pedal controlled column that can be inclined backwards using a pneumatic system. The mounting head can also be locked in position pneumatically; thus, its distance to the rim is adjusted automatically.
Designed for specialist tyre operations, the Promont 822 is an automatic tyre changer suitable for larger businesses. Like the 820, the 822 is equipped with a pedal-controlled tyre changer column that can be inclined backwards using a pneumatic system and a pneumatically lockable mounting head. In addition the Plus equipment designed for the unit, comprised of a bead lifter and depressor, makes the changing of run-flat and ultra low profile tyres a straightforward procedure. The 822 Plus has an external clamping for 22-inch rims. A pedal-controlled tyre inflator ensures quick tyre inflation, and the machine has two rotation speeds, 7.5 and 13 RPM, which its manufacturer claims makes it one of the fastest tyre changers on the market.
Despite its relatively compact size the Promont 826 offers tyre changing for rim sizes up to 26-inches. The unit’s design, incorporating a mounting arm swivelling system saves considerable space; unlike in many other machines the column on the 826 does not tilt during operation – only the tool support arm performs this operation. This model is also available with Rema Tip Top’s Plus equipment, enabling the easy mounting and dismounting of run-flats. It also features a tyre mounting roller that presses the tyre vertically and horizontally into the drop centre, making fitting the tyre beads a more simple procedure.
