A Well Balanced Range from Gemco
Gemco Equipment Ltd, part of Denmark’s 90-year old Stenhøj Group, is said to be the largest supplier of tyre bay equipment in the UK, and the company offers not one but two lines of tyre changers and wheel balancers – their own Dunlop brand and the highly regarded Mondolfo Ferro range from Italy, for whom Gemco acts as UK representative.
Mondolfo Ferro has been selling their equipment in overseas markets since 1965 and today the company continues its focus on product development to ensure its machines maintain a leading technological edge. In the UK Gemco markets three Mondolfo products of particular interest – the Aquila AS944 tyre changer and the MT2080 and MT2680 wheel balancers.
The Mondolfo MT2680 is a microprocessor wheel balancer suitable for passenger car, 4×4, van and motorcycle wheels, offering both static and dynamic balancing. Gemco report that the unit was planned, developed and designed throughout to make the operator’s job easier, more convenient and safer. The MT2680 is capable of accommodating rim diameters between 8 and 26-inches and features a large user-friendly digital display unit. The unit’s shaft, which is operated by a low-noise energy efficient 24v electric motor, is ergonomically positioned to make the placing of weights inside lightweight alloy rims a simpler process. The MT2680 also features ample storage for all accessories. The other Mondolfo wheel balancer offered by Gemco, the MT2080, is similarly specified: the unit can balance rim diameters between 8 and 26-inches and widths of 2 to 20-inches. Although featuring a more compact design than the MT2680 it can also statically or dynamically balance wheels weighing up to 65kg. The MT2080 also benefits from the low noise and consumption qualities of the 24v electric motor specified by Mondolfo.
The Mondolfo AS944 is an automatic tyre changer for car, racing and van wheels. The unit’s chucking capacity allows for tyre changing on rims between 10 and 26-inches in diameter and for wheels up to 14-inches wide. Gemco say the AS944 is ideal for businesses that require a machine capable of sustained high use, and report that the high quality of components used in the unit make it an extremely reliable machine requiring only minimal maintenance costs. The unit’s turntable features two working positions – 10 to 23-inches and 13 to 26-inches. A super RM Assist Arm is available as an additional option or can be retrofitted at a later date.
Gemco’s other tyre changing range, the new Dunlop tyre changers, provide professional tyre shops with heavy-duty machines that are designed to stand up to continuous intensive use. Two models are currently available: The DTM 190 semi automatic tyre changer, which incorporates a compact swing arm design and features as standard an air filter, regulator, oiler and tyre inflator and soap bucket. Its wheel capacity is from 10 to 20-inches clamped outside and 12 to 23-inches clamped inside. Automatic changing is the domain of the DTM185, a machine designed to accommodate wheels of 10 to 23-inch rim sizes. Like the DTM190, it comes kitted out with a host of standard equipment, including air filter, regulator, oiler and tyre inflator with pressure gauge. The addition of the Dunlop assist arm ART320 to the unit offers the professional tyre shop the facility to make easy work of changing low profile tyres.
Wheel balancing is looked after by the DWB950 electronic wheel balancer. The self calibrating unit is capable of taking wheel weighing up to 70kg and rim diameters of 10 to 20-inches. The unit’s approximate balancing time is ten seconds and offers a precision level of one gram.
All equipment sold by Gemco is installed by the company’s owned engineers, and customers can take advantage of Gemco’s CAD equipment to help maximise the use of workshop space and comply with all regulations, including Health and Safety and MOT.
