BFGoodrich Backs Donnelly in Scotland to Take Irish Points
The leading Irish Tarmac Rally Championship contenders are in Scotland this weekend for the Jim Clark Rally, which counts for their domestic series, and Eugene Donnelly is banking on his new BFGoodrich tyres to take him to victory over the 260 kilometres of special stages.
The Jim Clark Rally is the only international event held in Scotland that runs on closed public roads with the route running across the Berwickshire countryside during Saturday and Sunday.Reigning Champion Donnelly has finished second three times on the Jim Clark and needs a maximum points score to strengthen his Championship challenge. He is confident that the Reid Motorsport entered car will be competitive from the start.
Donnelly’s Subaru WRC has had the engine and gearbox rebuilt since his strong second place finish on the Rally of the Lakes and this will be the first time he has driven the Scottish stages on the BFGoodrich g-Force tarmac rally tyres.
While preparing for the pre-event recce, Donnelly commented: “We have a very strong package in the car with the BFGoodrich tyres and both my co-driver Paul Kiely and myself have got over the flu that made us feel quite uncomfortable on the last event. Whilst we want to challenge for an outright win we have to keep in mind that having failed to finish the first round we need to collect points at every event to be in with a chance as the season continues”.
