Formula Ford Champion to Instruct at Marangoni Customer Days
Current British Formula Ford Champion, 23 year-old Nathan Freke from Kidderminster whose dominance in the series saw him netting 12 outright wins in 2006, is to join Marangoni as a corporate Instructor. The McLaren Autosport BRDC 2006 Young Driver finalist, one of the UK’s most promising young talents, will team up with Marangoni ‘Stig’, Cristiano del Balzo to provide high speed experience drives to major corporate customers at the Italian tyre manufacturer’s test track.
Said Derek Carruthers, Marangoni (Car Tyre Division) Sales & Marketing Director, “We are delighted to have secured the services of Nathan for a Marangoni Corporate Event in May. This hugely talented young driver will add a whole new dimension to the event and the opportunity to sit beside a driver who is already showing such potential is certain to be eagerly sought after by Marangoni Corporate guests.” While in Italy, Nathan will have the unique opportunity of gaining venue experience on the circuits where Cristiano both races and evaluates tyres for Marangoni, as part of the ongoing R&D programme.
Marangoni has supplied a set of UHP Mythos tyres, 215/40/17 fronts and 245/40/17 rears. Nathan will be putting the car to good use in the ‘Ten of the Best’ competition, a televised top speed test over a 1.5 mile timed course and drag strip. The Freke Toyota will be representing the MR2 fraternity in this much publicised motorsport contest.
Continued Derek Carruthers, “Having a driver of Nathan’s abilities working with us is a ringing endorsement of Marangoni’s performance credentials. We are confident that this will prove a mutually rewarding relationship.”
In preparation to host the corporate activity as a member of the Marangoni team of instructors, Nathan Freke will have ample time to have familiarised himself with Marangoni rubber. His hotter-than-hot Toyota MR2 – arguably the quickest in the UK – is currently being remapped to produce a whopping 510bhp and is now sporting Marangoni rubber to ensure massive grip in all road conditions.
Since his Championship win there has been massive demand for the talents of Nathan Freke, as he has become one of motor racing’s hottest properties. With his sights set on the US racing scene, Nathan has already tested for Gelles Racing for the high-profile Formula BMW Championship, a support series for the US and Canadian GPs two ChampCar meetings and the American Le Mans Series (ALMS). Nathan has recently returned from testing ChampCar Atlantic for Walker Racing in New Orleans, together with a test of a BMW Touring Car.
