Two Life Sentences for Thompson Killer
A judge has sentenced Michael Goodwin, convicted of murdering and Trudy Thompson, to two consecutive life terms. A jury convicted Goodwin of two counts of murder on January 4.
Goodwin was found guilty of hiring two hit men to murder Mickey Thompson, US racing champion and founder of Mickey Thompson Performance Tires & Wheels, and his wife Trudy in 1988. The reported motive for the slayings was revenge for a business partnership that went sour.
Despite the sentencing Goodwin continues to declare his innocence. “I have condolences for Ms. Campbell [Mickey Thompson’s sister Collene],” said Goodwin. “But I can’t apologise because I’m not guilty.”
The two gunmen have never been caught. Prosecutors say that the case will remain open until they have been apprehended.
