Pirelli Proposes to Supply Tyres for F1
During an interview with Italian media Pirelli Tyre S.p.A CEO Francesco Gori disclosed that the tyremaker has approached the FIA regarding supplying tyres for Formula One racing. This admission comes only days after the FIA selected Pirelli as sole supplier for the Word Rally Championship’s 2008-2010 seasons.
“Last Spring the FIA invited us to participate in the contest for the 2008-2010 seasons. We have met them and made our proposals,” Mr. Gori said. “However, the proposal had one condition – that there is a change in the current wheel dimension of 13 inches.”
And while the FIA has agreed upon a change of one inch, Pirelli is keen for a larger change, with a wheel measuring at least 15-inches in use. Ideally the company would like to see a 17-inch diameter selected, in which case Mr. Gori has said Pirelli would enter Formula One immediately.
