Michelin Found Not Responsible for Worker’s Death
An investigation has ruled that neither Michelin nor the company that hired an independent contractor killed at the tyremaker’s Norwood factory in the US are to blame for his death. Neither the national Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the North Carolina Department of Labor found any evidence of neglect or foul play to have occurred during last October’s incident.
The contractor, 39-year old Bart Reynolds, was found unconscious in the vicinity of a motorised lift he had been sent to retrieve from a warehouse. Emergency services were unable to resuscitate the man and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Michelin public relations representatives, Reynolds has been assigned to the Norwood plant to conduct general maintenance for the preceding six months. Commenting on the fatality, Michelin North America’s director of public relations, Lynn Mann, said “Michelin’s primary focus is always the health and safety of all those working in and around our facility.”
