Michelin Canada produces First X One
Just over a year after Michelin North America announced it would invest $92 million setting up production facilities for its X One wide single tyre in Canada, employees at the Waterville, Nova Scotia plant have produced the factory’s first X One tyre ahead of schedule.
Approximately 100 employees from various departments across the Waterville facility participating in producing the plant’s first X One tyre. “Being chosen for the X One expansion project was certainly a great honour for employees, but I think today was even more satisfying as they watched with pride as the first X One tyre rolled off the line,” said Grant Ferguson, plant manager at the Waterville site.
“Getting a new system in place, adapting to it and ensuring production quality isn’t always an easy task, but our employees were up to the challenge,” he added. “Their commitment and tireless efforts made the X One tyre production a reality. We’re very proud of them.”
The expansion of Michelin’s Waterville plant, aided by the Nova Scotia government and Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), includes the addition of a new building and equipment, research and development facilities, and the employment of additional technical and manufacturing employees related to X One production. When completed, this project will expand Michelin’s X One capacity by more than 50 per cent and make Waterville the second largest truck tyre manufacturing plant in Michelin’s global network.
