Hankook Getting Ready in Hungary
Korean tyremaker Hankook, who in a company news release referred to Europe as their “second domestic market,” are preparing their new factory in Hungary for the start of production. The plant in Dunaujvaros, Hungary, which according to the company cost US$500 million (£255 million), is located on a 54-hectare site 68km south of Budapest and when operational will provide output for the European UHP tyre market.
The latest reports indicate that installation of the plant’s equipment and machinery ha been completed, and test operations will begin some time in March. Full production will commence in late Spring. When the new Dunaujvaros facility reaches fully operational status in 2010 it will be capable of turning out a total of 10 million tyres a year.
