Dunlop Introduces New Steer Tyre in US
Although Dunlop is a long established brand in Europe its market presence in the US has traditionally been much smaller. The company, however, is working hard to change this and have introduced a new line of HGV steer tyres that they hope will further increase the brand’s US market profile. Dunlop Tires describe the new SP384 steer tyre as a mid-priced brand for dealer and select wholesale distribution, featuring enhanced casing, tread design and pressure distribution groove technology that aids in lower cost-per-mile and increased miles to removal. The new tyre completes the Dunlop brand’s range of long-haul applications, joining Dunlop’s SP453 drive and SP181A trailer tyres.
According to Larry Tucker, the company’s marketing manager for line-haul tyres, the SP384 steer tyre, available in standard and low-profile sizes, will provide good traction with more uniform and even wear. The 18/32-inch tread depth and five-rib construction reportedly optimises treadwear and the tyre’s pressure distribution groove also helps eliminate shoulder wear. The lateral grooves, along with ‘pin blades’ — serrations on the shoulder — help enhance traction.
The SP384, which is suitable for retreading, is backed by a five-year casing, two-retread maximum limited warranty. It is available in sizes 11R22.5 LR G, 11R24.5 LR G, 295/75R22.5 LR G and 285/75R24.5 LR G.
