Bridgestone Supplying Run-Flats to 2nd Generation X5
According to Bridgestone the new Dueler H/P Sport RFT is designed to give drivers of sporty 4×4 vehicles a tyre that offers the same characteristics as the rubber on leading coupés and saloons. And, so they say, that’s why BMW have selected the Dueler H/P Sport RFT for fitment on the new BMW X5. As an RFT product, this tyre features a reinforced sidewall to provide the run-flat capabilities.
The 2007 X5 is heralded by Bridgestone as the perfect vehicle to showcase the capabilities of its run-flat technology. The SUV continues the evolution of its acclaimed 1999 predecessor, available with an improved 272bhp 3.0si petrol, 231bhp 3.0d diesel or 355bhp 4.8i petrol power plant, all of which are BMW’s most advanced engines to date.
The new X5 also features a pioneering Head-up Display system that projects speed, navigation and check control messages directly into the line of sight of the driver, enabling them to concentrate fully on the road ahead.
“Given the larger size of SUV rims, the Dueler H/P Sport RFT is arguably our most technologically-advanced run-flat tyre to date, and is a direct response to the growing popularity of run-flat tyre technology in both the original equipment and replacement markets,” said Andy Lane, marketing manager of Bridgestone UK.
“It’s fitting the tyre will first appear on the 2007 X5, an equally impressive new launch that is set to make a major impact in the luxury SUV market where its predecessor already sets the benchmark for quality. We’re delighted BMW have chosen to again work with Bridgestone as an approved supply partner.”
The Dueler H/P Sport combines the pattern advantages of Formula One tyres to give motorists stunning levels of grip on both wet and dry road surfaces. The tread design is specifically tailored for high-powered SUV vehicles, with block stiffness increased on the outside shoulder and centre ribs for enhanced handling and refinement.
The tyre is available in five different sizes for the new X5 ranging from 255/50 to 285/45, all for 19-inch rims.
