Bridgestone Employees Receive CEO Award for Safety Initiative
Bridgestone CEO and president Mr. Shoshi Arakawa has presented a special award to the company’s global sales teams in recognition of their efforts in promoting the Think Before You Drive road safety campaign. The campaign, which was launched in 2005 and emphasises basic safety measures including regular tyre pressure and tread depth checks, has in a short time spread to 73 countries around the world.
Andy Davies, Bridgestone Europe’s general manager for sales and marketing, travelled to the company’s Tokyo head office to accept the award on behalf of the UK division. The award commends the efforts of all Bridgestone staff in promoting Think Before You Drive, as well as employees at the FIA, who partnered the company in the initiative. The value of the award is 2 million Yen (£8,900), which will be donated to the FIA Foundation, the FIA’s charity arm, in a ceremony on March 14.
Last year Bridgestone Corporation was awarded the FIA’s World Prize for Road Safety, the Environment and Mobility in recognition of the campaign’s success. For 2007 Bridgestone has already confirmed its commitment and support to further safety initiatives linked to the Think Before You Drive campaign, including UN Global Road Safety Week in April.
