Trelleborg Begins Consultations on UK Plant Closure
As part of the strategic and operational action program Trelleborg announced at their Capital Markets Day in November 2006, the company plans to initiate consultations with their Employee Consultative Committee regarding the closure and transfer of Trelleborg’s operations from West Thurrock, in the UK.
The operation in West Thurrock is included in Trelleborg’s Fluid & Acoustic Solutions business unit and manufactures polymer-based vehicle components, such as noise-absorbing products. The unit employs approximately 170 people. It is anticipated that most of West Thurrock’s production will be transferred to one or more of the business unit’s other plants in Europe. Production in West Thurrock is expected to continue until the end of 2007.
Although the company plans to retain a local sales office, in total approximately 150 employees are at risk of redundancy, including 40 salaried employees. Trelleborg has announced that they, in cooperation with their Employee Consultative Committee, will make efforts to support the employees affected and to plan a program of measures to assist in finding new employment within and outside the Trelleborg group.
