Man Assaulted in Tyre Centre Robbery
A tyre centre employee in the Northern Ireland town of Newry was assaulted during a robbery on the morning of February 3. Two men reportedly broke into the Newry Tyre Centre in Belfast Road at about 7.30am and tied the man to a chair. They then demanded money from the 59-year old employee, and escaped with what police have described as a considerable amount of cash. Their getaway vehicle, the victim’s Fiat van, was later found abandoned.
The employee was able to reach a telephone while still tied to the chair, and he called police who promptly arrived and freed him. He described the robbers as wearing dark coloured fleece jackets, jeans and woollen hats. It is believed that one of the men may have spoken with a foreign accent.
