Goodyear Unveils Upmarket US Tyre
The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. plans to introduce a new tyre in July that caters for a customer base that purchases premium high-performance cars. This tyre, the carbon-fibre, reinforced Eagle F1 All Season tyre, was revealed at the company’s annual tyre dealers’ conference in held Orlando, Florida at the start of February.
Anticipated customers would be owners of upmarket vehicles such as BMW, Mercedes or Porsche. Prices will vary according to tyre size, and while a price range was not revealed at he launch, the retail cost is expected to be at least US$100 per tyre, or about 25 percent more than the price of a typical, high quality US market passenger car tyre. And, according to Goodyear’s brand manager Jim Davis, the company believes there is a growing market for more expensive and technically advanced tyres. As evidence of this new direction, Goodyear stated last year that it planned to eliminate approximately one-third of its lower cost, private label tyre production.
Goodyear introduced its first tyre in its Eagle range a year ago.
