Four F1 Tyre Types in 2007 – Bridgestone
As Bridgestone prepares for its role as Formula One’s solitary supplier, the tyremaker has disclosed that in 2007 it will supply teams with only four different specifications of dry weather tyres – Hard, Medium, Soft, and Super Soft.
According to the company’s head of track engineering operations, Kees van der Grint, “From these four specifications, two will be chosen for use at each grand prix.” At least one set of both selected specifications must be used in every dry weather race, however the ‘red tyre rule’ proposed to distinguish between the tyre types has not been implemented.
Compared with the tyres produced last year when competitor Michelin was still involved with Formula One, Bridgestone’s products for 2007 are about two seconds a lap slower.
