Discovery at Nudist Beach Attracts Attention
Sun lovers at a secluded naturist beach have been forced to share their sandy haven with a large mysterious visitor that, like them, seems happy to flaunt what others may prefer to keep discretely tucked away. And while regulars at Cape Town’s Sandy Bay inlet may be used to seeing all manner of sagging and rubbery apparitions during the course of a day at the beach, this particular one is turning heads, as it is a tyre from an airliner.
According to South Africa’s Independent Online news, the tyre was first spotted by a jogger who, after running past it several times, became intrigued as it was appeared to be much larger than a car tyre. Upon closer inspection, the clothes-free athlete discovered the words ‘British Airways’ printed on it. Upon notification, British Airways began scanning its databases to find the tyre’s origin.
Spokesperson Stephen Forbes said engineers could not find the matching information from the tyre on its database, which indicated that the tyre had not ever been fitted to any of its international fleet of Boeing 747-400s.
It has been suggested that the tyre in question had been sold for scrap and someone was using it for “some sort of activity” on the beach.
