Straight Set to Apollo
Indian tyremaker Apollo Tyres has reaffirmed its commitment to the development of professional tennis in its homeland by signing up a doubles team to compete in the 2007 ATP and Grand Slam Tours. The two players are top Indian player Mahesh Bhupathi and the Czech Republic’s Radek Stepanek.
Commenting on the announcement of their signing, Apollo’s COO and joint managing director Neeraj RS Kanwar said ““Mahesh is a perfect fit for us, given our desire to promote tennis and develop young talent. Through this association, we hope to create a strong, youthful and energetic Brand India in the international circuit.”
A year earlier Apollo committed itself to underwrite the training of a teenage tennis prodigy from Delhi, Yuki Bhambri. In recent times Bhambri has been ranked as number the number one under-14 player in both India and Asia.
