More Details of Navistar – Double Coin Deal
(Akron/Tire Review) Citing the effects of a global shortage on commercial truck tires, Navistar has opted to add China-made Double Coin radial truck tires to its OE mix. Navistar signed a deal with China Manufacturers Alliance to put Double Coin radials on “several platforms” of its Class 4-8 International vehicles and IC Corp. buses.
The move marks the first time that a China-produced truck tire has earned an OE position with a major North American truck producer.
“International Truck and IC Corporation’s global position and global sourcing initiatives are a perfect match for the high quality tires supplied by CMA,” said CMA CEO Larry Williams. “The Double Coin brand is synonymous with quality and profitability in the North American replacement market and now one of North America’s major OEMs is ready to embrace it too.”
“The global tire shortage has affected many truck companies, and ultimately, truck customers,” said Tom Akers, International’s vice president of purchasing and logistics. “International is committed to putting our customers miles ahead on the road and in business. Because Double Coin is able to meet International’s production needs and strict quality standards at an affordable cost, we’re pleased to add them as a tire supplier.”
