Michelin to Close Nigerian Factory
Michelin has announced that it is ceasing tyre production at its factory in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. The tyremaker informed the Nigerian government of its decision on January 16 and, according to Michelin, both parties have agreed to work together to find a buyer.
Unspecified short-term measures introduced by Michelin will be extended until the end of May, and the company says their goal is “to find and rapidly implement appropriate measures to support the employees concerned.”
Michelin will maintain its sales operations and rubber plantations in Nigeria. Following the closure of the Port Harcourt facility the company’ sole remaining African production base will be their factory in Hussein Dey, Algeria.
