Maxxis – Taking Motorcycling to the Supermaxx
“Although the new Supermaxx will feature the same tread and will look much the same as the existing product, radical improvements to the carcass and compound mean it will offer superior traction and drive,” says Derek McMartin, managing director of Maxxis International UK.
The new Maxxis Supermaxx is in stock now in a series of popular sizes from 110/70ZR17 to 200/50ZR17, including 120/70ZR17 and 180/55ZR17.
Maxxis for motocross
Maxxis is known for its motocross (MX) tyres, which are used in the Maxxis British Motocross Championship. Whatever the conditions, Maxxis offers a full range of tyres for soft, intermediate, hard and sand conditions.
Its most popular MX tyre, the Maxxcross IT (M7304/7305) has just got better with a range of Street Legal ‘E-Mark’ sizes now available. The Maxxcross IT is Maxxis’s newest intermediate terrain tyre for off-road and features a new knob design to provide superb handling in a variety of soil conditions. In addition, a new rubber compound is designed to enhance stability and add grip.
The Maxxis Max Pro (M7304S/7305B) is available for the professional rider in two ply options. Offering more precise steering and handling while losing nothing in the grip department, Maxxis has come up with another winner. There is also a massive weight saving advantage on the Max Pro series making the bike lighter and easier to handle.
Developed and tested with top riders across the world, the MaxxCross SI (M7311/7312) has a race-proven tyre compound that delivers excellent traction in soft/intermediate conditions. Its anti-flex knob bridges on side lugs offer solid straight-line stability, while the tyre’s enhanced grip allow for aggressive cornering. The SI is proof that Maxxis is taking performance to the next level.
Introduced in mid-2006, the Sandmaster’s computer-enhanced tread pattern is designed to offer optimal traction, while the silica composition and open tread pattern allow it to self-clean throughout a ride. “The tyres have proved to be an instant success,” says David Banks, product development manager at Bickers plc, a division of Maxxis UK.
“Great rear wheel grip on the start line has already provided many holeshots for the teams, and out on the track the tyres are absolutely superb when cornering at high speed in deep sand.”
Maxxis has been the title sponsor of the Maxxis British Motocross Championship since 2002 and last year’s series was one of the most hotly contested, as CAS Honda star Ken DeDycker took the MX1 class honours and Carl Nunn of the EA KTM team retained the MX2 class title.
Control tyres for Supermoto
Meanwhile Maxxis is synonymous with Supermoto championships and has been used by many series as the control tyre. The Maxxis Presa M6109 radial is designed for Supermoto racing and is available in medium and soft compounds that have been specially formulated to provide superior traction and control. Kevlar belt construction provides excellent stability and maintains tyre uniformity, while the slick tread design enhances grip and can be modified according to track conditions.
Street Legal options such as the M6118/M6119 are available and utilise the experience gained in racing to give a tyre that thinks it is on the track while riding on the road.
OE accredited scooter tyres
Maxxis is also OE accredited by all the major scooter manufacturers, including Piaggio, Gilera, Yamaha, Malaguti, Sym, Kymo, Peugeot and Aprilia, offering a full range of tubeless tyres to meet all UK specification machines.
The M6029 is said to provide outstanding grip, handling and stability. Designed for today’s high performance scooters, the M6029 features a high-quality specially formulated rubber compound for traction and durability. The distinctive tread pattern ensures precise handling and stability.
“The scooter marketplace is very price conscious and while handling and stability have always been the hallmarks of Maxxis scooter tyres, following a price realignment on our most popular OE pattern, the M6029, we are delighted to announce that they now represent excellent value and are highly competitive,” says Mr McMartin. cja
