Goodyear Plans to Sell Park Area
(Akron/Tire Review) The Akron Beacon Journal reported that Goodyear has put its Wingfoot Lake park near Akron up for sale. The area includes a 522-acre lake and 150-acre recreational park in Suffield Township, Ohio.
The deal apparently does not include Goodyear’s blimp hangar, located on park property. Goodyear told the newspaper that it does not plan to sell to a developer; rather it wants the property maintained as a public recreational park.
Goodyear purchased the lake and property in 1916, and it has been used both as a source of water for tire production as a private park for Goodyear employees and retirees. The park includes ballfields, basketball and bocci courts, a min-golf course and driving range, picnic shelters, playgrounds and more. It is also home to the 500-member Goodyear Hunting and Fishing Club.
