Conti Signs Deal with India’s Metro Tyres
Indian tyremaker Metro Tyres is planning the production of tubeless motorcycle tyres as part of a technical collaborative deal with Continental AG. The tyres will initially be manufactured principally for overseas markets, although domestic sales will follow at a later date.
Continental’s managing director, Jorg Essiger, travelled to India to finalise the agreement. Regarding the deal, he stated “We are witnessing an equal demand for tubeless motorcycle tyres in Asian markets too, as in Europe. And to cater to this growing market we are rolling out tubeless motorcycle tyres in partnership with Metro Tyres.”
The company’s head of research and development in Japan, Mr. Max, believes that the future for India as a tyremaker looks promising. “India is going to be a major export hub for the two wheeler industry, particularly for motorcycles” he said. He added that Continental would fuel the Indian market’s growth with the ECE approved tubeless tyres it intends to produce there.
Metro tyres will produce these tubeless tyres at its Ludhiana facility in Punjab, and is currently in the process of upgrading and installing the infrastructure required to manufacture these tyres.
