Completely Different – Michelin MotoGP Tyre
Gauloises Yamaha MotoGP rider Colin Edwards has given Michelin’s new 16- inch front tyre a definite thumbs up during pre-championship simulation races in Sepang. The smaller diameter front tyre is designed to provide greater stability during braking and cornering for the new generation of 800cc machines being introduced into the MotoGP competition.
Edwards used the new front tyre on his cycle during the 21-lap race simulation on the second day of riding in Sepang. He commented that “… it’s nothing remotely like I had last year. It’s almost like a different brand of tyre. If you gave me the tyre I’m on now and the one I used last year I would say it wasn’t even the same manufacturer.”
He summed up his opinion of the new Michelin tyre by saying “Whatever it is, it is friggin’ rock solid!” High praise indeed.
