Another Small Step Against Tyre Waste
With some 40 million tyres requiring disposal each year in the UK alone there is a pressing need to find alternative uses for waste rubber from old tyres, especially since the European Landfill Directive in came into effect in 2001.
For this reason the expansion of tyre reuse infrastructure is always newsworthy, and T&A were pleased to learn of the purchase of a secondary tyre shredder by Ling Demolition Service Ltd of Kent. This new machine will operate alongside another existing unit, and is capable of processing 250 tyres per hour.
Sold by Riverside Waste Machinery, the Austrian-built UNTHA tyre shredder removes the steel wire from tyres and sets it aside for recycling before turning the rubber into wire free granules. The shredder’s contra shear cutting blades can produce a product that is soft and flexible enough for safety type applications, such as padding for children’s playgrounds, or for noise insulation purposes.
During the early months of 2007 Riverside intends to promote the merits of the new UNTHA RS100, for which it is sole distributor, to recycling facilities across the UK.
