A Flat Tyre Can Ruin Your Day….
A New Zealand man has ended up in court after getting more than he bargained for while changing a flat tyre on his car.
A 37-year old Wellington man pulled to the side of a busy street last December and was attempting to change his car’s deflated tyre when police arrived to give him a hand. However, the observant boys in blue spotted that all was not as it should be, and promptly booked the man for drink driving.
The Wellington man was found to have an excess breath alcohol reading of 920mcg/l. He was fined NZ$900 (£320) and disqualified from driving from six months.
During court proceedings the judge, Mike Behrens, voiced astonishment that the police were in the practice of moonlighting as road service patrolmen. “I’m glad to know police have got the time to change people’s tyres,” he commented wryly.
It is reassuring to hear that New Zealand’s long arm of the law knows how to wield a wheel wrench, but remember – drinking and tyre changing don’t mix.
