New Continental Managing Director Named

The Continental Tyre Group announced their choice for the position of managing director. David Smith will step into the role at the end of December when current managing director Brian Smith leaves the company after thirteen years in the job.

At present David, 41, is Finance and IT director at Continental’s UK head office in West Drayton. He joined Continental in 2003 and prior to this worked as a managing director and finance director for a number of manufacturing businesses. Upon commencing the role of Managing Director he will assume total responsibility for the sales, distribution and marketing of the company’s UK and Ireland market passenger, commercial and industrial tyre products.

Regarding his appointment, David stated that “I am delighted to take Continental into the New Year as managing director. Moving forward, we will be building on the successes that Brian and his team have helped the company achieve. 2007 is set to be another strong year for us and I look forward to our continued positive performance.”

Outgoing managing director Brian Smith leaves Continental to become chief executive and HF Holidays early in 2007.
