Michelin to Extend Use of TPMS
Oxfordshire based Transense Technologies PLC has announced that it has entered into an agreement with Honeywell International Inc to extend the use of Transense’s Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).
The TPMS utilises Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) technology, and works by sending an acoustic wave through a tyre, monitoring pressure and temperature many times a second. The acoustic wave can detect deviations from the manufacturer’s recommendations and notify the driver when a problem arises. It has been estimated that fitting the SAW system to a vehicle can improve a vehicle’s fuel efficiency by ten per cent.
According to Transense, Honeywell is using the SAW technology to develop a new pressure and temperature sensor for use by Michelin.
