Michelin Reflects on F1 2006
Michelin celebrated their 2006 Formula One success in their hometown of Clermont-Ferrand on December 12. As a grand finale to the season Renault’s Heikki Kovaleinen conducted a demonstration run, the last organised appearance of a Formula One car fitted with Michelin tyres.
A crowd of over fifteen thousand spectators gathered to watch the Renault R25 put through its paces as Kovaleinen took it on five round trips through Avenue Julien, the city’s main street. Kovaleinen declared the drive, in which speeds of up to 140mph (230 km/h) were reached, to be “really good fun.”
The drive through Clemont-Ferrand was the culmination of two days of festivities hosted by both the tyremaker and local authorities.
