Dunlop Seat Leon to Run in Sport Maxx Cup
The grid for the inaugural 2007 BARC/Dunlop Sport Maxx Cup has been boosted with the announcement that Dunlop is to run a SEAT Leon FR as a VIP/guest car in the series. he 200hp Leon FR will compete in Class C of the Cup, against cars such as the Renault Clio 172, Citroen C4VTS, Mini Cooper S and MG ZS180. The car is being built by multiple Fiat Challenge Champions, AMR Racing, and team owner Adrian Miller is also talking to two other drivers about running sister cars to the Dunlop entry.
Dunlop’s James Bailey believes the FR will make a cost effective, competitive race car. “The 200hp FR should be competitive in Class C, and we chose this model over the 240hp Cupra which would compete in the bigger class. Dunlop will run this car in every round as a guest car to promote the first year of the Sport Maxx Cup”
The Dunlop SEAT will be unveiled at the 2007 Autosport International Show in January, along with its promotional programme for the season.
The BARC/ Dunlop Sport Maxx Cup has been flooded with enquiries with over 5 months still to go before the first round of the 2007 Dunlop Great and British Festivals at Snetterton next April. ailey states: “The first wave of provisional registrations has given a solid foundation to build a successful new series in the UK racing calendar. Dunlop and BARC have always believed there is a strong need for production racing. We have received 25 serious provisional registrations 6 months prior to the start of the 2007 racing season and this shows we have demand in the market.”
