White & Company Move to Michelin Tyre Policy
White & Company plc, the largest independent removal company in the UK, has adopted a fully managed Michelin tyre policy which sees each vehicle in its 155-strong commercial vehicle fleet undergo a detailed monthly tyre inspection. Checks are carried out by ATS Euromaster utilising an electronic data capture (EDC) system which allows their technicians to record each tyre’s condition and tread depth onto a small handheld computer, before uploading the results via mobile phone to a central database. Once collected, the results are sent by email to Michelin, which co-ordinates any tyre replacements or regrooves that are required directly with ATS Euromaster.
“We began to fit Michelin tyres last year after a number of competitive trials highlighted performance advantages over the Dunlop rubber we previously specified,” explains Roger Brown, Group Fleet Manager at White & Company. “This has now been extended to a fully managed contract which has helped to free-up a lot of our own administration time and significantly improve our fleet records. Instead of receiving fleet check reports by fax – typically covered in dirty fingerprints from the workshop – we receive regular emails, with updates as soon as each job has been completed. Outstanding items are also flagged up enabling us to know the exact status of tyres across the fleet,” he adds.
The managed contract also includes the company’s fleet of more than 50 cars, with a bespoke invoicing process generating a single Michelin invoice for each of the company’s 15 branches, enabling its £80,000 (approx) annual tyre spend to be attributed to local cost centres.
