Toyo Backs British Motorsport
Toyo has re-affirmed it’s continued support of Motorsport at every level today with the release of it’s list of sponsored events and championships for 2007. According to company representatives, Toyo believe in putting their money where their mouth is, covering everything from grass roots club racers up to International heavyweights.
In racing, nothing matters more than control. When your race series consists mainly of irreplaceable six-figure classics, it becomes a pre-requisite. With this in mind, Toyo points out that the control tyre for the ’07 Aston Martin Owners Club Championship is the critically acclaimed Proxes R888.
In a similar vane, the snarling line-up of the TVR Car Club Speed Championship will soon see Toyo as title sponsor for the forthcoming season. With outrageous horsepower and rear-wheel drive, it’s a safe bet that many drivers will be looking to find traction from their Proxes tyres, particularly in the wet.
According to the company, Toyo’s D1 Great Britain, Professional Drift Championship captured public imagination in 2006 and looks set to expand further in ’07. With the cult of drifting now becoming a major force in motorsport, the sublime sideways car control of many combatants is now delivered on Toyo rubber. This being the only professional drift championship in the UK, the standard of entrants constantly pushes the frontiers of performance driving, not to mention physics.
VW’s iconic Mk2 Golf has it’s own series next year and it’s no wonder that organisers have turned to the tenacious grip of the Proxes R888 as control tyre for the powerful FWD field. Promising to provide a cost-effective, competitive and entertaining race series with realistic running costs, expect these guys to be swapping a bit of paint next year.
Close racing is expected in the exciting MaX 5 Championship where near identically prepared Mazda MX5’s battle wheel to wheel on their Proxes T1-R rubber. The Max 5’s begin their season next April and tussle throughout the season at all of the UK’s favourite circuits.
The heavyweight battlers in the Jaguar Enthusiasts Club’s XJS and Production BMW Championships also look to the qualities of the Proxes T1-R and the unrivalled grip of the R888 to bring home the bacon on race day. The T1-R joins it’s race-bred brother the R888 to provide the traction and action in the Westfield Sports Car Club’s Speed Series. Proving their worth in this gruelling hill-climb and sprint series where tyre choice is everything and every second counts!
Toyo’s marketing director, Mike Rignall put the eclectic mix into context. “The old racing adage, ‘when the flag drops, the bull stops’ should apply as much to tyres as it does to drivers,” he explains. “Forget our shiny labs, supercomputers and simulations. This is where we really prove what the product can do. By covering such diverse championships we gain a huge amount of data for our road car programmes. Drifting for example is an incredibly arduous proving ground for a road tyre. If its works there… it works anywhere.”
Toyo has information on the other series it supports on its UK website – toyo.co.uk.
