The Prost Legend, Take Two
Between 1985 and 1993, legendary French driver Alain Prost won four Formula One World Championships, (all of them using Goodyear tyres). Thirteen years later, the Prost name tops an international podium again with Alain’s son, Nicolas Prost, winning the Formula Three event at Montmelo, Spain last weekend, the penultimate round of the Spanish F3 Championship. Prost used Birmingham-built Dunlop tyres to carry him to this landmark first win.
The 24 year old driver’s first international win has put the Prost name back on the map. After the race, Nicolas Prost celebrated with Alfonso de Orleans Bourbon (Racing Engineering Team Principal) and Jean Felix Bazelin (General Manager – Dunlop Motorsport Europe), pictured below.
Dunlop has been manufacturing winning tyres in Birmingham since 1902. The Birmingham plant now produces around 300,000 specialist competition tyres a year for UK and export markets all over the globe and employs a 300-strong group comprising research, development, manufacturing, engineering and commercial teams. In addition to this Formula Three success, Birmingham-made Dunlop tyres have achieved international success in 2006 in global touring car racing such as the German DTM and UK BTCC, Endurance racing and the majority of national superbike championships around the world.
