Kwik-Fit Wins British Gas Contract
Kwik-Fit will now perform tyre safety checks on around 10,000 British Gas light commercial vehicles as a part of the new three-year solus fast-fit contract won by Kwik-Fit Fleet. The contract, one of the largest won by Kwik-Fit Fleet, will see mobile technicians at the UK’s largest independent fast-fit company undertake quarterly tyre wear and tear checks on all vehicles, to assist British Gas comply with its at-work driving duty of care responsibilities.
The new contract, which runs to the end of 2009, builds on an initial 12-month solus deal won last year when Kwik-Fit Fleet took over responsibility for tyre authorisation and management on the British Gas liveried fleet following the closure of AA Tyrefit.
The 10,000 vehicles are all part of the British Gas Home Service fleet driven by the organisation’s engineers who provide a range of services, including installing and servicing domestic boilers. British Gas general manager fleet Colin Marriott said: “Our customer-focused operation means that there is little time for vehicles to be off the road. It is also vital that we meet all our at-work driving health and safety obligations and the unique tyre inspection service that Kwik-Fit is providing will help achieve that aim.”
Kwik-Fit Mobile operates 200 mobile units nationwide undertaking routine tyre fitting as well as safety checks, which see fully qualified tyre fitters undertake a visual inspection followed by a more in-depth check with levels taken and findings recorded. Tyre authorisation and invoicing on all vehicles is undertaken through Kwik-Fit’s Fleet Service Centre in Tannochside, Scotland, which also hosts a 24-hour driver helpline.
Kwik-Fit Fleet sales director Nigel Davies said: “Ensuring tyres meet the legal requirement is a vital part of any corporate risk strategy. We would urge other fleets to introduce a similar tyre inspection initiative to that implemented by British Gas.”
