Tyre Explosion Lead to Docks Cordon
Firefighters sealed off Barry Docks in the Vale of Glamorgan on 18 September in order to tackle a blaze which led to the tyres on a heavy lifting vehicle exploding. According to the BBC, the fire service sent 11 appliances to deal with the explosion and four gas canisters had to be cooled to prevent them from overheating too.
Assistant divisional officer Jason Evans from South Wales Fire Service was quoted as saying: “It was a dangerous situation. There were three minor explosions just as the fire appliances arrived. They were attributed to the large tyres which were on the fork lift truck exploding, but no firefighters or members of the public were hurt.”
A spokesman for Groupe Samat whose equipment was damaged in the fire said they were investigating the cause of the fire. One theory is an electrical fault.
