Mulgrew Haulage to Start Michelin Fitment Policy
County Down-based Mulgrew Haulage Ltd has adopted a Michelin Four Lives tyre policy across its fleet of 70 tractor units, fitting a mixture of new and Remix tyres supplied by local independent tyre distributor A1 Tyres. The decision to fit Michelin ‘E’ segment regional tyres replaces an existing procurement policy with Pirelli and follows the successful performance of a number of trial tyres which demonstrated a lower cost per kilometre, according to Michelin.
“Our annual tyre bill is over £100,000 each year, so ensuring each tyre spends the maximum time in service on the road is a critical factor in controlling our running costs,” says Michael Murray, Stores Manager, who has sole responsibility for the company’s tyre purchasing and maintenance policy. “Trials on vehicles in our fleet have shown that Michelin tyres offer valuable gains in mileage performance, with the added benefit of each tyre being able to be re-grooved, remoulded and re-grooved again in line with Michelin’s Four Lives tyre policy.”
Mulgrew Haulage is also looking to improve its average fuel economy by following advice from Michelin’s Stop Thirsty Tyres campaign. Mr Murray explains: “Ensuring we re-groove our tyres should help to improve our fuel economy, since it optimises the most fuel-efficient state of each tyre’s life. We are also committed to regular tyre inspections, pressure checks and wheel alignments to ensure we look after our tyres and minimise rolling resistance.”
