Hoyer Group Sign European Tyre Contract with Michelin
Bulk transport logistics specialist Hoyer is in the process of switching its tyre procurement to Michelin contracts in a number of major European countries, following the success of its Michelin-fitment policy in the UK.
Hoyer UK Ltd has been fitting Michelin tyres across its 1,200-strong tanker fleet since 1997, managed through ATS Euromaster. The success of this arrangement has seen the adoption of a ‘pence per kilometre’ (PPK) contract in the Republic of Ireland, supported by Haughton & Son Tyres Ltd. It has also seen similar contracts set-up for Hoyer Group fleets in Belgium, Finland, Germany, Holland and Luxembourg.
“We presented the benefits of operating a Michelin PPK contract to our European colleagues and the decision has already been taken to switch to Michelin in a number of major markets,” explains Steve Tindell, Purchasing Manager at Hoyer UK Ltd. “Our own experience of a PPK contract is that it enables much closer control of tyre costs and allows the opportunity to work more closely with the supplier, compared with a typical pay-as-you-go set-up.
“The Michelin culture has even spread as far afield as China, where the fleet now fits Michelin tyres as a direct result of our input from the UK,” he adds.
The 30-strong Irish tanker fleet operates predominantly on petrochemical contracts and is responsible for making nationwide deliveries. All new vehicles on the Hoyer fleet in Ireland will be ordered with Michelin as standard, with existing tyres from other manufacturers replaced as wear dictates.
The Hoyer Group has its headquarters in Hamburg and develops and implements complex logistics solutions, in particular for the chemical, petroleum, food and gas industries. With a staff of 4,630 it operates in 90 countries worldwide through a mixture of company-owned subsidiaries and agents. Its transport capacity extends to 14,047 containers, 2,771 road tankers, 2,223 trucks and 10,329 intermediate bulk containers.
