Marangoni Motorsport Gets Green Light For Motorsport Activities
Following achievements in Motorsport activity throughout 2004 and 2005, Italian tyre manufacturer, Marangoni, is now targeting further successes in 2006 with participation in three European championships. Firstly there is the Italian Hillclimb Championship.
According to the company, Marangoni Zeta Linea Racing tyres have had a ‘dramatic’ effect upon the Hillclimb scene, particularly the European Hillclimb Championships, with the first international wins with Marangoni, for a radial tyre in 2005. The Zeta Linea Racing tyre has won Hillclimb competitions across Europe for a number of years, winning the Italian Hillclimb Championship in 2004 and the European Championship in 2005, with Simone Faggioli at the wheel, driving an Osella PA21S.
Mazda RX-8 Cup
2006 will see Marangoni’s involvement as control tyre for the Mazda RX8 Cup extended for its third year. Reigning 2006 Champion, Elisa Giordan, 27, will again defend her title in 2006 as she aims to prove that gender is an irrelevance on a race circuit. The championship was created as a domestic Italian Championship, but has developed to include rounds across Europe and even going as far afield as Bahrain, giving the championship a truly international feel. Again, using Zeta Linea Racing tyres (with the standard Mythos road tyre as the wet alternative), the championship will see 15 highly experienced drivers from across Europe compete head to head over a nine race season, with the climax in Bahrain, in November 2006.
Osella Junior Trophy
2006 will witness the debut season for the Marangoni sponsored Osella Junior Trophy. Introduced to provide young, talented drivers with the opportunity to showcase their abilities, the championship is open to drivers between 18 and 28 years old. Over a season of eleven races, the young hopefuls will compete on Marangoni’s Zeta Linea Racing tyres, as utilised by European Champion Simone Faggioli, and a host of top drivers across Europe.
“The competitors will be able to rely on drivers with considerable expertise for suggestions and driving feedback,” manufacturer Enzo Osella explained. “This is one of the key benefits that the Marangoni Junior Trophy offers to those who want to begin their career in hillclimb. We expect this championship to grow in importance, with such partnerships confirming our professionalism and commitment to striving for ever higher performance.”
“Marangoni has always believed in motorsport as it allows us to test our tyres in extreme conditions,” commented Mario Marangoni, president of Marangoni Spa. “Conditions that the tyres almost never experience in normal situations, on everyday roads. For Marangoni, racing represents a useful laboratory for future developments. The results ensure that our tyres are at the cutting edge in terms of both technology and performance.”
