Supply Direct Works With Sir Tom and Cardinal O’Brien
As a part of Supply Direct’s ongoing social responsibility policy, the company recently worked with the Romanian Challenge Appeal to install a range of garage equipment in the small town of Siret in Romania, just beside the Ukrainian border. Kwik Fit and Farmer Autocare founder Sir Tom Farmer was the driving force behind the initiative.
Other charity initiatives in the town of Siret included development of an orphanage by Anneka Rice for the TV series Challenge Anneka in 1992. The aim of setting up a garage workshop was to help the town become more self sufficient and help develop skills and jobs within the area. Equipment provided included a tyre changer, wheel balancer and a two-post lift installed by Supply Direct’s specialist engineers Paul Duckworth and Karl Cook.
The workshop was officially opened in May by Sir Tom Farmer and the head of the Roman Catholic Church of Scotland, Cardinal Keith Patrick O’Brien. The Mayor of Siret and other Romanian Government Officials were also present on the day.
Supply Direct Managing Director John Prout said: “We were delighted to offer our services for such a worthy cause and are looking forward to do more work of this kind in the future.”
Pictures of the official opening ceremony will be available on an updated Supply Direct web site, which is currently under construction.
