Waste disposal specialists working on behalf of the Environment Agency have removed 10,000 tyres from an illegal vehicle dump in Llandegla, Wales. According to reports the tyre pile would have been as tall as Snowdon if the products had been laid end to end.
The Environment Agency Wales revealed that the operation had cleared enough scrap vehicles (mainly 2CVs) to cover three football pitches – 340 in all.
Officers also removed three tonnes of batteries, 125 gas canisters, two pallets of paint tins, various scrap metals and five sheets of asbestos were also taken away from the site belonging to Nicholas John Lowe.
“We hope this site clearance sends out a strong message to the waste industry and other illegal operators. The authorities will work together to tackle these problems and will take the necessary action if human health or the environment are at risk,” senior project officer Lyndsey Meek said.
