Goodyear Steer Tyres Clock Up 266,000 Miles
A truck driver from well-known UK haulier Stan Robinson Ltd has been named Britain’s top driver by Goodyear after managing to achieve a remarkable 425,000 kilometres (266,000 miles) on the same set of Goodyear steer tyres.
Nigel Brown took delivery of his new Scania in April 2003, fitted with Goodyear Marathon LHS 385/65R22.5 steer tyres. Three years later, he had clocked up a mileage equivalent to driving ten times around the Equator and the set of Goodyear steer tyres had yet to be changed.
Roger Austin of Stan Robinson Limited, who is responsible for maintaining the fleet, paid tribute to Nigel’s driving and the tyre performance: “Nigel drives with respect and avoids hitting kerbs. His smoothness ensures that the vehicle and tyres are used as efficiently as possible. This technique, coupled with durability of the Goodyear tyres, has produced an incredible mileage figure. Nigel’s routes are very demanding, combining motorway work with local deliveries and urban driving, which gives a true test of driver and tyre”
Goodyear Business Development Manager Tony McHugh stated: “Stan Robinson was one of the first UK fleets to use the Goodyear Marathon LHS as a super single steer tyre, and the combination of the tyre design, excellent driving and professional, regular maintenance and fleet auditing has produced this outstanding mileage.”
The Goodyear Marathon LHS has a unique tread design and an abrasion resistant compound to ensure the maximum mileage and lower fleet costs. After the equivalent of ten laps of the globe, Nigel has been treated to a new pair of Goodyear Marathon LHS tyres on the front of his truck. However, this does not mean that the record breaking tyres will get a well earned rest, as they have now been regrooved and will begin a second life as a trailer tyre, thus helping to keep down fleet costs.
