Don’t Try This at Home – Two More World Records for Terry Grant
International stunt driving ace Terry Grant drove himself into the records books yet again recently, by performing two car control records for the Guinness World Records TV show in Madrid, Spain. He used his new TVR Sagaris to break the 2005 Guinness World Record set by Dale Morrison for 69 consecutive and uninterrupted ‘donuts‘. (360° on the spot spins). Terry coaxed the standard road-going Sagaris and its Yokohama tyres to a total of 71 to snatch the record.
Whilst most drivers would then retire to celebrate, Grant then proceeded to use one of his trademark ‘Legend’ race cars to set a new Guinness World Record for the most number of consecutive spins whilst standing on the roof…. using no kind of restraining or steadying device.
Jubilant after his success, to be aired later in the year to a global audience, Grant was quick to praise his crew and sponsors. ‘I’m a bit dizzy now!’ He quipped, ‘but the car has been amazing. Absolutely faultless! Thanks to my team, Legend Cars Spain and the TVR factory for all their help and a huge thanks to Yokohama for supplying the perfect tyre for the job. It takes something special to survive that level of abuse!’
Now with a remarkable 15 car control records under his belt, Grant is still looking forward to pushing the boundaries of performance driving. So what’s next? ‘That’s easy’ asserts Grant ‘The twisting ramp jump from James Bond’s “The Man With The Golden Gun”. It hasn’t been performed live for nearly 30 years. I’m going to bring it back as a stadium attraction!’
