Yokohama Develops Advan Aircraft Tyres
Yokohama has announced that it has developed the “ADVAN AC Y-255,” radial aircraft tyre. The company began delivering the products for use on Boeing 777-200 and 777-300 aeroplanes in March. The products are sized 50×20.0R22 (26PR and 32PR).
Aircraft tyres such as for the Boeing 777-300 are subjected to conditions far more severe than those for F1 racing cars – the need, for example, to support a total weight of 300 tons at speeds of 340 km/h through repeated takeoffs and landings. Because of the high level of technology and experience required, only a limited number of tyre manufacturers throughout the world are capable of making aircraft tyres. Since it began its development of aircraft tyres in 1940, Yokohama Rubber has supplied various tyres to the airline industry, the Defense Agency and others. The AC Y-255 is the first Yokohama-produced aircraft tyre to receive the Advan name.
