Pro-Cut to Launch First On-Truck Brake Disc Lathe
Pro-cut International (with a UK base in Cheltenham), will launch the truck market’s first On-Truck Brake Disc lathe at this year’s Commercial Vehicle Show. The TD502 is a new addition to the existing Pro-Cut on-car brake disc lathe range and is a unique product being introduced into the UK market.
Pro-Cut sales director Guy Carter said: “The need for this type of brake lathe has been identified after extensive research. The London Bus Company has already implemented this new lathe and are seeing excellent returns in time and money, whilst having the added advantage of reduced vehicle downtime, critical to any bus, truck or coach business.”
He added: “We believe that this is an innovative new approach to keeping commercial vehicles on the road, doing what they are supposed to do – making money. This lathe is quick and easy to use, and we are able to offer it for sale, lease or rent. Renting is a proposition that many transport and logistics companies will find very attractive”.
Up to now all leading truck manufacturers recommend that the brake discs are skimmed. Why? “The Industry recognises that if you fit a new flat pad to an old disc, that the brakes do not work for many miles until the pads ‘bed-in.’ This is not only a serious safety issue, but means the new pad life is significantly reduced,” Pro-Cut representatives said in an official statement.
The New Pro-Cut TD502, can skim brake discs on the vehicle with no dismantling of the brake assembly. The advantages of doing this on vehicle are that the braking system is effective immediately after the discs have been skimmed and the brake pads replaced. This has been tested recently when a vehicle was MOT Tested immediately after the brake discs were skimmed using this lathe – and passed.
Additionally there are cost savings to be made from getting extended pad life and getting the same life from a second replacement set as was achieved from the first set. Brake squeal is reduced and braking vibration issues are eliminated.
Pro-Cut have a full working display at their stand at the CV show (Stand 5388) Wayne Starkey (Ex-MAN Trucks) is a full time demonstrator.
