MNA, CTNA Recommend Tyre Age Limit
(Akron/Tire Review) Michelin North America (MNA) and Continental Tire North America (CTNA) are the latest tyremakers to issue technical bulletins to dealers calling for the replacement of tyres 10 years or older.
Automakers such as Ford Motor Co. and DaimlerChrysler have publicly advised that tyres be replaced after six years. And, last November, Bridgestone/Firestone North American Tire (BFNAT) recommended a maximum life span of 10 years for passenger tyres.
However, the Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA) says there is no concrete evidence available to support an expiration date for tyres. NHTSA plans to begin testing procedures within the next few years, according to reports.
