Tyres Dumped in Residential Estate
Fly tippers have dumped about 200 tyres in a Milton Keynes estate, by a peaceful footpath between Middleton and Milton Keynes Village. The tyres were spotted by a dog walker on Tuesday morning.
Local resident Judith Read is concerned for the safety of children walking to and from a nearby primary school. She also fears someone will put a match to the tyres.
“People who do this sort of thing are totally irresponsible,” she said.
“Children walk past them every day – if they try climbing the mound and the tyres, which are heavy, they could fall on them and could be hurt.
“God forbid someone will pour petrol on them and set them alight; that would be just awful for the environment.”
Because of their effect on the environment tyres cost money to dispose of.
“They are obviously not prepared to pay money so they dump them on someone else’s doorstep,” added Mrs Read.
A Milton Keynes Council spokesman said fly-tipping costs tax payers a substantial amount every year, and has called for anyone with information on the person who dumped the tyres to come forward.
