‘Motor Industry of Great Britain’ Available from SMMT
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders has published its annual ‘Motor Industry of Great Britain’ for 2005. As usual, the 220-page report contains a wealth of information and statistics concerning the world automotive industry. If you want to know how many cars per 1,000 population there are in Bolivia, for example, then this is the publication for you. (The answer, by the way, is ‘three’.)
Suppose you saw cars with the International Registration letters YV, EAT or WAL – would you know that they hailed from Venezuela, Tanzania and Sierra Leone? You would be able to look it up in this book. Equally, you could quickly find out that, in 2004, two Bentleys were exported to the Dominican Republic and 2,773 to the USA.
There are sections on trends and economic performances; for example, China was the seventh largest car producing nation in 2004 and, according to the SMMT, it is set to be the second largest car producer by 2010.
‘Motor Industry of Great Britain 2005’ is indeed a valuable business reference tool and is available from the SMMT, priced £125 for members and £175 for non-members. Full details are available on the society’s website www.smmt.co.uk
