Leicester Tyre Dealers Under Scrutiny
Tyre dealers in Leicester are being told to dispose of waste tyres legally – or face prosecution and hefty fines. There were more than 650 reports of fly tipped tyres in the city last year, costing £30,000 to clean up.
City council officers are visiting tyre dealers on this week to make sure they are safely disposing of their waste. Dealers are required by law to keep records of the transfer of scrap tyres to registered waste carriers.
Officers say they believe the tyres are being dumped by professional environmental criminals and are coming from one or more commercial sources.
